Transforming Community Equipment Service: Plans to reconfigure the equipment service are still to be finalised taking into account the national evaluation of retail pilots and local Herefordshire factors. Whilst changes will occur with the emergence of some retail outlets it is unclear how soon and where in Herefordshire these will be. This may be an opportunity for some Alliance members.
Physical disability commissioning plan: Is in draft form and out for consultation. The Alliance will collate feedback from interested members.
Transforming Day Opportunities (older people, physical disability): There is still a lot of thinking to do over the future range of activities that should be on offer, transportation, and whether centres are wanted by service users. Commissioners will continue to consult with service users and final plans may be deferred pending feedback from potential pilot initiatives and self-directed support preferences.
Domiciliary care: Current contracts with providers are due to end early 2009. Providers will be consulted by commissioners over future services in the autumn. Self-directed care may affect the volume of block contracting with spot purchasing likely to grow. It would be good to see the market share of third sector providers increase if the market is opened up.
Carers breaks (respite): These contracts will go out to tender and providers will be selected in the autumn of 2008. Some Alliance members provide existing services and are well placed to compete for this work which again may be spot purchased more than currently. Details are available at Herefordshire Council.
